Research on Discrimination

Religion

Today believe it or not we still see many types of discriminations, weather it is in the workplace or just in general. The word discrimination is defined as the unjust treatment of someone based on their age, gender, or race, this definition has grown to include other things as well. Today there is laws in place to protect people from discrimination based on their religion. The U.S Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is a federal agency that enforces civil rights laws against workplace discrimination. When it comes to jobs, “ the law forbids discrimination when hiring, firing, pay, job assignments or any other term of employment” (EEOC). In the 2014 annual hate crime statistics, it was reported that “56.8 percent victims of crimes were motivated by their offender’s anti-jewish bias” (FBI). The religious group that is getting targeted the most jews, but the percentages have gone down which means that the problem is steadily going down.

Sexual Harassment

Like discrimination against religion, there is also gender discrimination. Gender discrimination most often happens to women and this can take many forms including sexual harassment, pregnancy discrimination, and equal pay for women. Today it is unlawful to harass a person because of that person’s sex, bug it still happens according to the huffington post, “1 in 3 women have experienced sexual harassment sometime in their life” (Huffington post). Women today unfortunately are paid less than men for the same job. According to the institute for women’s policy research stated that “in 2015, female full time workers made only 80 cents for every dollar earned by men” (IWPR). This is a 20 percent wage gap, but as you go down the ladder of different races, the wage gap gets bigger.

  1. Froilan, there are a few minor typos here, but overall, you do a great job of integrating quotes into your writing. I’m not sure what your pictures mean, but I’m glad you included them, just make sure you go in and cite them. Good work!
